Turmeric (curcumin) and Ginger decrease inflammation in the body. Trader Joe's has a nice tea combining these two herbs- a wonderful blend to keep you company when you have to stay indoors.
Adaptogens like Eleutherococcus senticosus, Oplopanax horridus (Devil’s club), Uncaria tomentosa (Cat’s claw) Withania somnifera (Ashwaganda), Astragalus membranoceus and Rhodiola rosacea are all anti-inflammatory, and increase immune function. Adaptogens, as an herbal class, support the adrenals so they are terrific for high stress levels, like we are experiencing currently. In addition, Schisandra chinensis and Pfaffia paniculata, two other adaptogens are immune modulating, so when the immune system starts to over respond in terms of a cytokine storm, these two herbs can be helpful.
Additional anti-viral herbs are Aloe vera, Hypericaum perforatum (St. John’s wort), Ligusticum porteri (great for coughs, especially severe ones), Lomatium dissectum (be sure to dilute with other herbs to under 25% of the total), Melissa citronelle, Phyllanthus amaurus, Podophyllum pelltatum and Thuja species.
These supplements increase immune function:
Zinc, selenium, vitamin C, probiotics, seaweed extract.
You can see that there are many choices in the natural world to support immune function. Also, Ayurvedic and Chinese herbs and other systems like Acupuncture, Chiropractic, massage, etc. can boost immune system function.
